Position: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Position Summary:

Inspect, Diagnose, Repair, and Maintain heavy off-road construction equipment – including bulldozers, excavators, haul trucks, compactors, and other mobile machines – in a field environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Proficiently diagnose and repair system failures on off-road construction equipment, including but not limited to: engine overhauls, drivetrain repairs, electronic system repairs, undercarriage replacements, hydraulic system repairs, and other repairs as required.
  • Inspect equipment and perform preventative maintenance tasks per manufacturers specifications and company’s regimen.
  • Safely operate equipment to diagnose and test machine performance.
  • Communicate with Managers and Site Supervisors effectively regarding machine downtime and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with parts manager and vendors to acquire parts in a timely manner.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all repairs, parts, and manhours associated with repairs.
  • Safely and proficiently utilize overhead crane and rigging devices.
  • Safely utilize cutting, welding, and torching equipment – while abiding by site specific rules and regulations.
  • Possess a strong understanding of diagnostics programs.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of company provided service truck.
  • Inspect, maintain, and document truck and overhead crane inspections.
  • Follow all DOT regulations while operating company vehicle
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass a drug test
  • Driver’s License
  • 2 years Heavy Equipment Maintenance experience required.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Must be willing to work outdoors and occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to occasionally work night shift.
  • Must be willing to work weekends when required.
  • Must be willing to work out of town in Western PA, Eastern OH, and Northern WV, when required.
  • Must be willing to travel regionally, when required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime.
  • Must be willing to wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be willing to participate in safety training and meetings.
  • Must be willing to work as part of a team.
  • Possess ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess ability to carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Possess ability to bend, kneel, and lay for extended periods of time.
  • Possess ability to safely mount and dismount heavy equipment.
  • Possess adequate close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception.
  • Possess ability to interpret operator’s manuals.
